Services Overview

I offer Individual Counselling, Couples Counselling, and Family Counselling. I’m happy to answer any questions you might have about sessions, and I offer a no-charge, 15-minute consultation call to see if we are the right fit for each other. Below, I outline a bit more about session offerings, what you can expect in therapy, as well as some other considerations which can be helpful for anyone doing therapy for the first time.

Individual Session

In many ways, individual counselling is at the heart of the psychotherapy practice. Many people begin their therapeutic journey in an individual setting. Individual therapy focuses on how we, as individuals, can better understand our own emotions, feelings, and behaviours. It is a deep dive into our own psyche, and it allows us time for reflection in an otherwise busy world.

Individual therapy can help you unlock new inner powers and strengths, find fresh meaning in your life, and help to heal old wounds and break the chains holding you back. I work with individuals of all ages, working on issues such as anxiety, depression, self-esteem, anger, grief, shame, as well as others. Whether you’re struggling in life right now, or simply needing an empathetic and compassionate person to lend an ear, individual therapy can help. Read More about Individual Counselling.

Couples Session

I work with couples to untangle relationship issues stemming from unhelpful relationship dynamics and patterns (sometimes in therapy we call these patterns ‘The Dance’). Couples get caught up in this ‘dance’ and each person fights to the death to prove they are ‘right’. However, with couples therapy it’s almost never about who’s right or wrong, and facts rarely get you to a better place. Instead, in therapy we focus on the underlying fears and attachment longings that each member of the couple brings to the table.

My couples counselling style is rooted in EFT (Emotionally Focused Therapy) created by Psychologist Sue Johnson. I have some additional training in EFT. This mode of couples therapy focuses on our need for secure attachment and bonding in relationships. When a couple finally understands their significant other’s fears and longings, new levels of connection and love can be opened.

Other Considerations

If you have more questions, please read the FAQ.

Virtual Therapy
Virtual therapy is being offered at this time. Today, technology allows us to reach further than our own communities. I am happy to provide virtual counselling to those in Collingwood, or in Ontario. Sessions are held on a secure video platform. Many clients will feel that this is the best fit for them and their busy schedules. Please let me know if you have any questions about this.
Payment Options
I utilize Jane App Payments which offers secure credit card payments for sessions. This is often the easiest way. In cases where credit card is not an option, I also accept eTransfer or cash.
Insurance and Billing
Many extended benefits plans cover psychotherapy services. However, direct billing is not available. You will be provided with a receipt at the end of each session for you to submit to your insurance provider. It is your responsibility to determine if psychotherapy services are covered under your particular plan.
Cancellation Policy

48-hours notice is required to cancel or change an appointment. If you provide less than 48-hours notice, you will be responsible for the full session fee.

What Should I Expect in Therapy?

Consultation Call:

We begin with a free consultation call to ensure we are a good fit for each other. Fit is everything in therapy, and I want you to feel comfortable working with me. Likewise, I want to make sure that I am the best person to help you. If not, I will gladly provide referrals to other suitable professionals. During the consult call I can answer any questions you have, especially if this is your first time in therapy.

Intake Session:

Once we determine that we are a good fit, we proceed with the first session, often referred to as an Intake Session. Prior to this session, you will complete some intake and consent forms. During the initial meeting, we review these forms together, as they offer essential insights to guide our work. Beyond that, the first session serves as an opportunity for us to get to know each other and for me to introduce you to what therapy will entail.

Goal Setting:

In the initial sessions, we start to explore what brought you to therapy and the specific goals you wish to achieve through our work together. This is a collaborative process! I want to know how I can best help you in your life.

Therapeutic Process:

From there, we embark on the process of working towards the established goals. The foundation of this work lies in building a strong therapeutic relationship, fostering an environment of trust and safety. We begin to work through evidence-based techniques, often centering around awareness building, psychoeducation, emotional regulation, cognitive restructuring, and more. This phase represents the core of psychotherapy.

Concluding Therapy:

As you begin to feel better and see yourself reaching your goals, we start to discuss the potential ending of therapy. The duration of therapy varies for each person. Many individuals find transitioning from weekly to bi-weekly or monthly sessions beneficial as they experience improvement, but the frequency will be tailored to your unique needs and preferences. You are welcome in therapy for as long as you need!

Fear often stops us from moving forward in life. It can be daunting to ask for help. Trust me, I’ve been there. But, you are capable and resilient, and you CAN move through those fears
